Britney Spears avoided jail after pleading guilty to a reduced reckless driving charge in Ventura County. Her DUI count was dismissed as part of a plea deal that includes probation, DUI classes, and continued mental health treatment.

Britney Spears has avoided jail time in her latest driving case after pleading guilty to a reduced misdemeanor charge of reckless driving.
The singer was arrested on March 4 in Ventura County, California, after officers pulled her over on suspicion of driving under the influence following reports of erratic, high-speed driving. Prosecutors initially filed a misdemeanor DUI charge.
At a court hearing on Monday (May 4), the case was settled through a plea agreement. Spears, through her attorney, entered a guilty plea to reckless driving, specifically what California law calls a “wet reckless,” a lesser offense tied to alcohol or drug-related driving incidents. In exchange, the original DUI count was dismissed.
Under the deal, Spears received 12 months of informal probation. Court-ordered terms include compliance with vehicle searches requested by law enforcement, completion of DUI education classes, and continuation of regular mental health treatment.
Her lawyer, Michael A. Goldstein, said, “She’s doing well. It was reduced. The DUI was dismissed. She entered a plea to reckless driving.” He added, “I don’t think anybody is happy about pleading guilty. We appreciate the district attorney recognizing the positive steps Britney has taken to help herself, and we expect that she’ll continue to do so.”
Last month, Spears voluntarily checked into a rehabilitation facility. She also addressed the incident publicly, posting a video of herself dancing with her 19-year-old son, Jayden Federline, and thanking fans for their support.
This is not the first legal issue linked to her driving. In 2007, Spears faced charges in a hit-and-run case; those charges were later dropped, and a jury acquitted her of driving without a valid California license.
In the years since, Spears has remained at the center of public scrutiny while reshaping her narrative on her own terms. Her memoir, The Woman In Me, generated major headlines for its candid account of her career, relationships, 13-year conservatorship, and personal life.
Following the book’s release, ex-husband Kevin Federline accused her of cocaine use during a period when she was breastfeeding their children. Spears pushed back, suggesting he was trying to “profit off [her] pain.” She also denied separate 2023 rumors that her family feared she was struggling with drugs, calling those claims “not true.”
Spears reportedly sold her full music catalog to Primary Wave for an undisclosed sum in late 2025, another major turning point in a career that continues to unfold alongside persistent legal and personal scrutiny.
