Liam Gallagher fuels Abbey Road chatter after being seen with John Squire
Liam Gallagher shrugs off Abbey Road speculation as sightings with John Squire reignite talk of a follow-up to their 2024 album.
Liam Gallagher has brushed off the speculation surrounding his latest Abbey Road Studios sighting, even as the appearance of both him and John Squire outside the North London facility set off fresh talk of a second album from the pair.
The former Oasis frontman and the Stone Roses guitarist released their self-titled collaboration, Liam Gallagher John Squire, in March 2024. It was Squire’s first new record in 20 years, and for a pairing built on legacy as much as present tense, the album arrived with the kind of scrutiny that comes with two inherited names and a lot of history attached to them.
Gallagher was seen leaving Abbey Road earlier this week, on May 6, after first posting on X that day: “IM A SINGER I SING SONGS THATS WHAT I DO”. That alone would have been enough to get fans reading between the lines. Once Squire was also photographed outside the same studio later that day, the gossip shifted from loose speculation to something closer to expectation.

That naturally stirred up hopes of a new Oasis record, but the presence of Squire at the same studio made the more likely explanation hard to ignore. If these are indeed sessions for a follow-up to the 2024 album, they would fit neatly into the way Gallagher has been talking about the project for months now, never quite promising anything and never quite shutting the door either.
When a fan asked him on X why he was at Abbey Road, Gallagher answered in classic evasive fashion: “I can’t tell you what I’m doing for security reasons and the national health service what I can tell you is it’s fucking BIBLICAL”.

Gallagher had already framed the first album with a mix of caution and confidence in a 2024 interview with NME. “People have got high expectations and I’m the same,” he said, “but after all the dust settles… it’s fucking 10 great songs with some great fucking musicians playing it and I’m singing decent.”
Not long after the record came out, he was already talking like someone happy to keep the thing moving. A second LP, he said, would be “rude not to”, adding that the first album was “just the starter” and that “if John comes up with another load of songs that are banging, they’ll get it as well”.
NME gave Liam Gallagher John Squire four stars on release in 2024, writing that while lead single “Just Another Rainbow” raised a few eyebrows with its Roses-like riff and Gallagher’s line about the colours of the rainbow and “am I your windmill?”, the album itself was hard to feel short-changed by. The review argued that it was not trying to compete with Definitely Maybe or The Stone Roses, but judged it instead as a record of mood and style that held up against the reputations behind it.
The pair then took the album on tour across the UK and Ireland, with NME also awarding their Glasgow show four stars. That review noted the close-up scale of the night and described the performance as “masterful and refreshing”, before adding that if this partnership is meant to continue, they should not leave album two hanging for too long.
