Fat Dog Return With the Bouncy, Festival-Ready Insult Pop of “Go Fuck Urself”

Fat Dog’s new single “Go Fuck Urself” lands with a title that suggests abrasion, but the song itself goes in a much kinder, stranger direction. The UK dance-punk band have made it a bright, ecstatic synthpop blast, built around a huge singalong chorus that feels designed for open-air chaos. If anything, the joke is in the contrast: being told to go fuck yourself over something so disarmingly friendly that thousands of people can shout it back at once.

It’s the latest move from a band that has stayed busy since releasing their debut album WOOF. in 2024. Fat Dog have already put out a pair of one-off singles, “Peace Song” and “Pray To That,” while side-project activity has also surfaced through ELLiS·D and Morgan Noise. With a dense run of UK and European dates now on the books, the timing makes sense. The group are also set to open for Foo Fighters and Kneecap on select shows, which only underlines how far their circuit has expanded in a relatively short stretch.

Joe Love co-produced “Go Fuck Urself” with Oli Bayston, whose credits include work with Olivia Dean and Rachel Chinouriri. The video, directed by Nine Screens, the duo of Dylan Coates and Travis Barton, keeps the song’s split personality intact. Love appears in a cowboy hat and leather vest, while the band and cheerleaders perform inside a wrestling ring as stand-ins for various pop stars glare from the sidelines. It’s knowingly silly without losing the sense that Fat Dog understand exactly how to stage themselves right now.
