Gracie Abrams sets July release for ‘Daughter From Hell’ and teases lead single ‘Hit the Wall’
Gracie Abrams will release Daughter From Hell on July 17, led by the single Hit The Wall, after teasing the project with Aaron Dessner.
Gracie Abrams has mapped out the next phase of her career with news of a new album, Daughter From Hell, due out July 17 via Interscope. The record arrives as the follow-up to her 2024 sophomore album The Secret Of Us, and it will be introduced by the new single Hit The Wall, set for release this Thursday, May 14. That release pattern matters. Abrams has spent the past year widening the scale of her public profile, but this announcement suggests a more deliberate recalibration rather than a simple victory lap after The Secret Of Us. The album was written and produced with Aaron Dessner of The National, whose ongoing role in her work has become one of the most defining creative constants in her catalog.
She started teasing Hit The Wall earlier this month with a social media post showing her silhouette against flames, captioned with the claim that she “loves” the single “with everything I have.” Then, at the red carpet for the 2026 Met Gala last week, she expanded on the song’s place in the rollout in a conversation with Vogue: “It’s the introduction to this new chapter, and I feel grateful and relieved that this is the introduction. I love the song so much and I love the people I made it with. It feels embodied and that feels good. I’m excited for it to belong to everyone else.”
Dessner used Instagram to frame the project in more expansive terms, writing that he was “So so so so so beyond excited” to announce the album and noting that the two had first begun working together six years ago. He described their process as one marked by constant pressure and return, saying, “I’m deeply grateful for every song we have made and the way we have kept challenging ourselves and growing together as collaborators and friends, sometimes hitting the wall, and then pushing and breaking through.”
He also said work on Daughter From Hell began two years ago, with several songs written around the same time as the singles That’s So True and I Told You Things. In his view, the new material pushes further outward: “You’ll hear us expanding our musical vocabulary and pushing into uncharted waters sonically, and most of all the sharpening and deepening of Gracie’s lyricism and expression in ways that continue to astound me.” He added, “I believe this album contains absolutely the most moving and powerful work we have done together – it feels elevated in every way – and I can’t WAIT until you all get to hear it. We will share more details soon on all the dear friends who helped us along the way.”
The timing also lands in the middle of a broader stretch of visibility for Abrams. Last year, she was announced as a guest on Mumford & Sons’ new album Prizefighter, alongside Hozier and Chris Stapleton, and appeared on the track Badlands. Before that, Mumford & Sons had already covered her The Secret Of Us song I Love You, I’m Sorry during a Live Lounge performance, a small but telling sign of how quickly her writing has settled into the wider singer-songwriter canon.
More recently, Abrams also drew attention for criticising Donald Trump’s “poisonous and vile narcissism” after his comments following the death of filmmaker Rob Reiner. And beyond music, her profile is set to extend further still: it has been confirmed that she will make her acting debut in an upcoming A24 film directed by Halina Reijn.
