Show Me The Body announce Alone Together, produced by Klas Åhlund and Kenneth Blume, and share the new single “No God.”
Show Me The Body have lined up a new album, and the people behind it point to a slight but telling shift in how the New York City punks are framing themselves. Alone Together arrives in July via Loma Vista, and the record was produced by Klas Åhlund and Kenneth Blume, two names better known for operating far outside the band’s usual orbit.
Åhlund has long been associated with Robyn, especially her Body Talk trilogy and this year’s Sexistential. Blume, meanwhile, has made a name as a hip-hop beatmaker who has recently been pushing past rap boundaries, including work on Geese’s Getting Killed. The pair had already linked up with Show Me The Body last month on “Dance In The USA,” a manic single that hinted at the larger project now coming into view.
What makes Alone Together interesting is not just the personnel but the stated approach. According to the band, the album was built around the parts of their sound that feel most unmistakably theirs. Frontman Julian Cashwan Pratt says Åhlund pushed them toward that idea directly:
“[Åhlund] was like, ‘Those parts only your band could do? You should just do that all the time. All the parts that sound like everybody else, you should just do less.’”
That thinking comes through in “No God,” the new single out now. The track leans on hypnotic, percussive electric guitars while Pratt delivers his shout-rap lines with a tight grip on the song’s central question of control, or the absence of it: “I will wait for no god to make it real… I need to make it real!” It’s a concise statement, but one that fits the band’s habit of turning confrontation into structure.
