Lady Gaga’s ‘MAYHEM Requiem’ Concert Film Sets Same-Day Apple Music and AMC Release
Lady Gaga’s MAYHEM Requiem concert film premieres on Apple Music May 14 and screens the same day at 15 AMC theaters.
Lady Gaga is closing out her Mayhem era with a concert film that reframes the album rather than simply documenting it. Apple Music Live: Lady Gaga MAYHEM Requiem will premiere on Apple Music on Thursday, May 14, at 8 p.m. PT, and the rollout is unusually broad: the film will also screen the same day at 15 AMC theaters across the United States, running simultaneously with the streamer premiere.
Produced in partnership with Apple Music, the film finds Gaga performing reinterpreted versions of songs from MAYHEM, the Grammy-winning album that anchored this stretch of her career. The premiere will be available to watch on Apple Music without a subscription, while Apple Music subscribers will be able to access the full performance and spatial audio live album on demand afterward.
The show was captured on Jan. 14 at Los Angeles’ 1,850-capacity Wiltern Theatre, a room small enough to make the scale of the concept feel intentionally theatrical rather than arena-sized. Onstage, the opera-house set Gaga built for her Mayhem Ball tour had been reduced to rubble, with Gaga performing in a Phantom of the Opera-type role. She ran through reinterpreted versions of “Abracadabra,” “Disease,” “Die With a Smile,” and the rest of the album. Morningview produced the film.
The release lands after Gaga wrapped the final dates of the global Mayhem Ball tour in April in New York, ending a yearlong run that stretched across five continents. The scale of that tour has already put the era in a different tier of her career: as Billboard reported in April, the Mayhem run grossed $419.5 million and sold just under two million tickets, according to figures reported to Billboard Boxscore. That makes it the highest-grossing tour of Gaga’s career and one of the 10 highest-grossing pop tours ever.
Seen in that context, MAYHEM Requiem feels less like an add-on than a formal coda, a way of translating a blockbuster live cycle into a second, more controlled format. The film doesn’t just preserve the tour’s imagery. It also extends the album’s afterlife, giving Gaga a way to revisit MAYHEM once the road show has already done its work.
