Conan O’Brien Set to Host the Oscars for a Third Straight Year

Conan O’Brien is headed back to the Oscars stage for a third consecutive year, a run that makes him the first person to host the ceremony three times in a row since Billy Crystal did it from 1990 through 1993. Raj Kapoor and Katy Mullan will also return as executive producers for a fourth straight year, keeping the core team intact for the 99th Academy Awards.

It is the kind of repeat booking that says as much about the current awards-show economy as it does about O’Brien’s fit with the telecast. He drew favorable notice for both of his previous hosting turns, but the Oscars rarely reward momentum with certainty. Kapoor, for instance, has already made notable host changes on two other live shows he is executive producing, swapping Reba McEntire for Shania Twain at the Academy of Country Music Awards, set for May 17, and Cynthia Erivo for P!nk at the Tony Awards, set for June 7.

The 99th Oscars are scheduled for Sunday, March 14, 2027, at 7 p.m. ET/4 p.m. PT at the Dolby Theatre at Ovation Hollywood. ABC will air the broadcast live, with streaming available on Hulu.

O’Brien’s name still carries the weight of a long and unusually durable television career. He is best known for Late Night with Conan O’Brien, The Tonight Show with Conan O’Brien and Conan, and he currently fronts the Conan O’Brien Needs a Friend podcast and HBO’s travel series Conan O’Brien Must Go. Across his career, he has collected six Primetime Emmys from 33 nominations, including recognition for his Oscars work.

Kapoor’s awards-show résumé is similarly crowded. He has received nine Emmy nominations and won for the 96th Oscars as well as for executive producing Adele: One Night Only, which took the prize for outstanding variety special (pre-recorded). His credits also include the Grammy Awards, ACM Awards, Latin Grammys and Emmy Awards.

Mullan, meanwhile, is an executive producer, showrunner and partner at the live events company Done + Dusted. She earned two Emmy nominations for her Oscars work and won for the 96th edition of the show.

Jeff Ross and Mike Sweeney are also returning as producers for a third time, with Sweeney again serving as a writer.
