Babehoven Share "Blue Around You" Ahead of Tour With Ray Bull

Maya Bon has spent much of this year in a collaborative stretch, though that hardly feels like a departure for Babehoven. The Hudson, New York duo she makes with producer and multi-instrumentalist Ryan Albert has long operated with a porous sense of community, and 2025 has only widened that frame. After Water’s Here In You arrived in 2024, Babehoven spent last year contributing a song with Cassandra Jenkins and Bloomsday to the TRAИƧA benefit compilation. This year, Bon has already linked up with Squirrel Flower for a cover of Mojave 3’s “My Life In Art” and then again with Squirrel Flower and Billie Marten on “Wheels.” Now the duo are back on their own terms with a new single.

Released just as Babehoven prepare to hit the road with Ray Bull, “Blue Around You” arrives as a soft, homespun song that leans into fiddle-heavy country textures without overplaying the gesture. It is the kind of track that settles into a wider emotional register, one centered on recognition, proximity, and the strange feeling of being folded into something larger than yourself.

Standing on a bridge seeing apartments illuminated around you, being understood by a friend who knows your story, witnessing someone pull their life together like tenderly tying a shoelace – these are all moments where we find each other in the soup of it all and choose to really see one another and stay. I see the blue around you as if we carry the hard times we go through around and within us like a glow

That framing gives “Blue Around You” its shape: not a dramatic statement, but a careful observation of how people carry experience, and how closeness can make that visible. It fits neatly into the band’s recent movement between collaborations and self-contained work, where the boundaries around Babehoven’s world seem less fixed than ever.
