Charli xcx has released “I Keep On Thinking Bout You Every Single Day and Night” as the B-side to “Rock Music,” available only on vinyl and Instagram.
Charli xcx has attached a new song, “I Keep On Thinking Bout You Every Single Day and Night,” to the vinyl release of “Rock Music,” keeping the track off streaming for now and effectively turning the 7-inch into the only official place to find it.
The song lives in a distinctly Charli register: restless, a little flippant, and emotionally evasive until it isn’t. Over sparse production and a run time of just 1:32, she circles the object of her attention while half-jokingly testing the edges of desire and identity. “I’m probably not,” she sings after floating the idea that “maybe I could be gay,” before adding, “I’ve always wondered if you were actually gay/ Or if that’s somеthing you just say for your career.”
The lyric writing is pointed, but the track’s most striking details are visual. Its black-and-white video, shot in Kyoto, Japan, folds in a handheld, voyeuristic gaze as Charli moves through a stairwell and across a dance studio floor. The opening line tips its hat to experimental film language rather than pop convention: “Maybe we could become each other/ Like somethin’ out of a Jacques Rivette movie or somethin’.”
What gives the song its shape, though, is repetition. Charli never fully identifies the person at the center of it, but she does make the fixation unmistakable in the chorus: “I keep thinkin’ ’bout you, every single day/ I keep thinkin’ ’bout you, еvery single night.” Even with the coyness intact, the song lands as an obsession sketch, brief but fixed on loop.
The B-side was announced on Instagram on Saturday, May 8, a day after Charli debuted “Rock Music.” She posted it on @b.sides, the side account she uses for behind-the-scenes material that doesn’t make its way to her main feed. In her caption, she noted that she spent six weeks in Kyoto to shoot a film and made the video there with Aidan. “only available on vinyl & here on b.sides. so rip the audio if you want it xx,” she wrote.
For now, the release remains as limited as Charli made it sound. The “Rock Music” 7" is sold out on Charli’s official webstore, though the product page says copies are being sent to select record stores in the U.S., U.K. and France. Since it is not on streaming services, the song is currently only officially available through the video Charli shared on Instagram.
