Mike D sets first UK and European solo dates after debuting new material and ‘Switch Up’
Mike D has announced his first UK and European solo dates, following new music, US shows and a surprise Beastie Boys set with his sons.
Mike D is finally taking a solo project beyond the US. The Beastie Boys veteran has announced his first-ever UK and European headline shows, a run that arrives after a low-key but unmistakable return to live performance this spring and summer.
The timing makes sense, even if the shape of it still feels slightly unexpected. Last month, Mike D turned up onstage with his sons Davis and Skyler, who perform together in the indie-dance group Very Nice Person, and worked through a couple of Beastie Boys classics. Not long after, he confirmed a pair of US solo dates, including a Los Angeles show at Plaza Nightclub & Dance Hall where he premiered new solo material. Then came Switch Up, his debut solo single, which arrived just last week.
Now the rollout moves across the Atlantic. The newly announced dates put him in a string of intimate, less conventional venues across the continent, beginning with two nights at 26 Leake Street in London on June 5 and 6. From there he heads to Berlin for a show at Saalchen before continuing on to Barcelona, Kortrijk and Sint-Niklaas. He is also booked into a handful of June festivals, including Primavera Sound in Porto, Beyond The Pale in Wicklow and Beyond the Streets in Paris.

For Mike D, the move marks a notable new chapter. It is the first time he has toured the UK or Europe as a solo artist, and the first fresh music associated with any Beastie Boys member since the group’s 2011 album Hot Sauce Committee Part Two. That matters not just as a footnote for long-time fans, but as a reminder of how carefully the Beastie Boys legacy has been handled since Adam “MCA” Yauch died in 2012. Mike D also has not toured as a Beastie Boy since Yauch’s death, while the group’s last release before this year came in the form of a deluxe reissue of To The Five Boroughs, their 2004 album.
