Oliver Sykes Says He’s Fine After Fan Throws Phone at Bring Me the Horizon Show
Oliver Sykes says he’s fine after a fan threw a phone at his head during Bring Me the Horizon’s St. Louis show, causing a mild concussion.
Oliver Sykes says he is “all good” after a fan hurled a phone at his head during Bring Me the Horizon’s concert in St. Louis on Monday night, leaving the singer with a mild concussion.
The incident landed during a performance of “Happy Song,” from the band’s 2015 album That’s the Spirit. In fan-captured footage, the phone is seen striking Sykes mid-song before he reacts and flings the device back toward the crowd. “Who the f— just threw a phone at my f—ing head?” he says immediately after the hit. In later clips, he can be seen rubbing his head and checking his hands, apparently looking for blood. During “Can You Feel My Heart,” he pauses several times to keep rubbing his temples and forehead.
On Tuesday, May 12, Sykes addressed the incident on his Instagram Story and gave fans an update. “Alright everyone – just wanted to let you know I’m all good,” he wrote. “The phone to the head definitely smarted and I ended up with a mild concussion, but the swelling’s gone down a decent amount already.”
He also acknowledged that the rest of the set was affected by the injury. “Last night I was struggling a bit on stage afterwards because singing was putting a lot of pressure on the wound and making things feel a bit disorienting while performing, so I’m sorry on my part for what may of seemed like a half hearted performance,” Sykes added.
He closed by telling fans headed to the band’s Tuesday night show in Kansas City that “everything should be fine for tonight’s gig.”
Bring Me the Horizon, the two-time Billboard Hot 100 hitmaking British rock band, were in the middle of their run when the St. Louis incident happened. Whatever the intention behind the throw, the moment cut sharply through a show that was already underway, and Sykes’ response made clear just how quickly a concert can shift from routine to something much more fragile. The update he posted afterward was brief, but enough to suggest he planned to continue the tour without missing the Kansas City date.
