Overmono Set Summer Return With New Album Pure Devotion and Lead Single “Lockup”

After the long runway to Good Lies, their debut album as Overmono, Welsh brothers Tom and Ed Russell are already moving toward the next chapter. Released in 2023, that record earned Album Of The Week honors and finished at No. 2 on our list of the best electronic albums of the year. Now the UK dance duo has announced its follow-up, Pure Devotion, due this summer.

The project arrives with a note that feels unusually direct from a pair of producers who have spent years balancing club utility with something more personal. “For us, making music has always been about having fun,” the brothers say, before expanding on the process in a message that runs through the record’s studio-bred details, from “setting up loads of ways of processing, recording, re amping sounds” to tracking a vocal “through an old tannoy speaker in the basement” and pushing a synth through “an old train station announcement speaker from the 1930’s.” They also describe running tape over magnets, blowing up speakers, and using “that dirt cheap overclocked fx unit we snaffled years ago in bromley.” At one point, they even mention oven-baking a cymbal covered in coffee grounds, crisps and vinegar, crediting Sylvia Massy for the idea.

That same statement also makes clear how collaborative the album was. Overmono thank Rollo, John Holt, Kindora and Ruthven for their contributions, along with the artists they sampled, the studios they worked in, and the engineers who shaped the process. It ends, fittingly, with a thank-you to listeners: “endless appreciation to everyone who takes the time to listen, we made it for you.”
