RIP Magic’s James Murphy–Produced Single ‘Screwdark’ Arrives as the Band Signs to section1

RIP Magic release 'Screwdark', another James Murphy production, as they sign to section1 and keep opening arenas for Tame Impala.

RIP Magic have stepped into a bigger lane: the band has released another James Murphy–produced single, ‘Screwdark’, at the same moment they announce a signing to section1 and continue opening arenas for Tame Impala.

Last year Marco Pini of Sorry joined forces with Felix Bayley-Higgins, Beth Boswell-Knight, and Pedro Takahashi to form the dance-rock outfit. Early on they supported LCD Soundsystem for a handful of shows and established a working relationship with Murphy; that collaboration now resurfaces on ‘Screwdark’.

Section1, the Los Angeles-based sister label to Partisan Records, is taking the band on board. The imprint, which also lists King Princess and Sword II among its roster, feels like a logical next step for a group that is already translating club energy into larger, arena-ready contexts.

‘Screwdark’ is accompanied by a Velcro-directed music video that leans into travel-worn chaos: a montage of life on the road rather than a polished narrative clip. The choice of imagery underscores where RIP Magic currently live as a band — caught between intimate dance-floor impulses and the mechanics of big-stage touring.

It is a quiet, strategic escalation. Supporting acts like LCD Soundsystem and Tame Impala, plus the visible endorsement of Murphy and a new label home, positions RIP Magic to grow beyond the short-run hype cycles that greet most recent departures from the indie underground.
