Slippers Preview Debut Slippers 08 With Final Single “Wasted Tonight”

Madeline Babuka Black has released the final single from Slippers’ forthcoming debut album Slippers 08: a bright, slightly ragged power-pop song called “Wasted Tonight.” The record itself lands 6/5 on K/Perennial, and the single arrives as the last piece of a short but persuasive rollout.

The first two previews, “Wants For Everyone” and “Fool In Your Room,” already earned attention — both longtime favorites here that made our lists of the Best Songs Of The Week — and “Wasted Tonight” confirms that Slippers are working in a consistent melodic language. It’s a sweet, fuzzy tune that limns a familiar scene: watching something promising run out of steam just shy of its potential.

The lyrics do the heavy lifting without overstating the case. A line like

“The writing on the wall says/ That nothing’s every actualized,”

lands with the kind of resigned clarity pop doesn’t always make room for. Later, the chorus folds regret into plain image:

“And all the buttons that you could’ve unbuttoned/ It’s all wasted tonight.”

Those couplets sum up the song’s domestic drama — small, specific failures treated as larger emotional currency — and they’re delivered over instrumentation that stays close to the warm, jangly template the earlier singles set.
